Consolidated Rental Car
Facility
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International
Airport
Kenner, LA
Synopsis
Owner: New Orleans Aviation Board
Client: Coover-Clark & Associates (architect)
Project Cost: $70 million
Original Start Date: February 2001
Second Startup Date: July 2008
Estimated Construction Completion: December 2013
Project Description
The project
involves redeveloping about40 acres of property
into a consolidated location to better manage
car rental operations. Specifically, the project
involves demolishing existing buildings and site
infrastructure, constructing new buildings, site
paving, and infrastructure. Buildings included a
multi-story parking garage (not designed by
Julien), a Customer Service Building, and more
than dozen individual structures to support
vehicle maintenance. The project also includes a
water tank, water well, and replacement utility
building as well as new stormwater drainage,
sanitary sewerage, and water supply
infrastructure. The most challenging aspect of
the project was the difficulty in designing
infrastructure improvements with limited
information on prior subsurface conditions.
Julien Engineering performed civil and
structural engineering design.
